I have entered the marine aquarium world, or at least are in the process of entering with an Aquapod 24 gallon. It gets really hot here and we don't have air conditioning. So I am getting a Current USA 1/15 chiller. I need a pump. The chiler handles 5-10 gpm so 300-600 gph. The only submirsible pumps that would pump that much with approximately a 5 foot head won't fit behind the false wall. So started look at external pumps. I had heard good things about Gen-x pumps late last year when I firt started flirting with the idea of a marine aquairum. The Gen-x PCX-30 perhpas. But I cannot find a head/flow chart. It is rated at 982 gph with no head. And can pump up to a 14+ ft head. But what is the flow at 5ft. I don't know and I cannot find it. I am not attached to a Gen-x and am open to any suggestions.

Thanks,
David

you dont really need a chiller...there's about 5 other threads w/the same exact heat issue going on right now..just look 2 down from this one and i'm sure you'll prolly find one..and in each one of them, there's a few people, myself included, that are recomending fans. just get a small fan from walmart, whatever you can get for like 10 bucks, and put it so that its pointing directly onto the water surface. this will help evaporate your water faster, which is nessessary for your water to cool down.

think of it as sweating...when you sweat, and there's no breeze...you just kinda get even hotter lol...but the minute you feel a breeze, you get a cooling feeling because of the sweat...its evaporating, which is causing the cooling action..

same thing w/your tank..its wet..just get airflow to make it evap.

I understand evaporative cooling. I just don't want a fan running all the time to keep the tank cool. This is in our living room and that would be annoying.

Is a Mag 5 too large to fit?? Most external pumps are too powerful, too expensive to operate and cost too much for what you need. I have used a Poseidon PS1 External Pump for a small closed loop, but the pump is $150 and uses ~100 watts!! If you could elevate the chiller to the same height as the tank and reduce the head maybe you could use something like a MJ1200 power head. On a 24 gallon tank I wouldn't think you need 300 GPH flow. Try it if you have one. RRR
