Do you wash them in the washer? Are laundry detergents harmful to reef? Do you use bleach? How many times can u wash a filter sock? My is the berlin in sump filter sock Link (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=BS1123)

Sorry I know this sounds simple and probably a silly question, but I have no experience in filter sock and the upkeep for them. Thanks for the help.

I wash mine in the laundry with a little bleach, and do a extra rinse cycle.

Do you have to let it dry completely for a day or two before using them or can you just use them after the extra rinse cycle?

You have to let it air dry so the chlorine dissapates. I let mine air-dry for at least 24hrs before using.

Just to recap: wash in in washer w/ detergent and bleach. Let air dry for at least 24 hrs. right?

Do not use detergent.
Only use bleach. In your rinse cycle you can add some de-chlorinator to get rid of the Chlorimine and Chlorine for sure.

I soak mine in RO with a glug or two of bleach, and when my sencond pair are dirty I take them to to hose with a high pressure sprayer and wash all the crud out, then I put them in a bucket of RO with dechlor for a bit, then hang them up to dry.

Holy crap, how did I miss that. Only bleach, no detergent. Sorry for any confusion.

Washing machine, no bleach, no soap. your slump doesn't care if your sock is super poping white :) I still let dry for 24hr.
