i always tell peopl with less than 40 gallons to skip the skimmer and just do water changes... its really not worth it imo

i dont say that you should completely skip a skimmer just cuz its a 20 gal...but i dont think that a remora is nessessary...i think that its great on my 55, but that would just kinda be a bit expensive for just a 20...you could get by w/like a css or something similar...

I think he is talking about the skimmer box that attaches to the actual maxi jet. I have one in my 29gal and love it .... the surface film has completely disappeared and it's great because you can throw in a bag of carbon or Rowaphos into the return spill chamber!
They are big and bulky but if you have a black backround it blends in and you don't even notice it. I would suggest getting one.
If my memory serves me, PM LBCBJ and see if he can send you a pic. of his skimmer box in his 18gal. You can barely tell it's in there!

Good luck!

I think this is on a 24 or a 29 gallon:

thats the one I was talking about .... and I do believe he said it was an 18gal, but I could be wrong!

But as you see, you can barely see it in there and while they do take up some space they blend in nice with a black background!

I think the skimmer box would be too big for your tank size. There would be no room for rock and livestock! Maybe try it without the skimmer box first? I have a Remora with skimmer box on my 38G and it works alright but I hate having the box in the tank. Works well for Rowaphos though. If I were you I would get a power filter and do regular water changes. The Remora w/ skimmer box would be too bulky. Aqua C has a new nano skimmer available? Maybe give that a try. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

I disagree sorry. I have the skimmer and box in my 29gal and still have 80+lbs. of LR and plenty of room for livestock to enjoy the space. Granted I only have a Perc. Gramma and long nose Hawk but everyone seems happy and the skimmer box is not even noticeable!
It works wonders for keeping my surface clean, trapping the microbubbles during the break in phase and running bags of Rowaphos when needed!

I will try and get some pics tonight!
