We, at Aquactinics, are pleased to be teaming up with IceCap to produce this new innovative T5 High Output fixture. These new fixtures will be distributed through a network of retailers and distributors that have been eager to carry our product line, as well as the present IceCap distribution network. This will not be sold factory direct. Prospective stores should contact Aquactinics or IceCap for information about stocking the new T5 fixtures and contact us directly for the rest of our product line.

We look forward to everyone’s input and please feel free to ask questions.

Thank you,

Tom Olajos

woohoo, great to hear tom!

is there an eta on this fixture? is this in r&d or ready to ship?

any details on the fixtures? how do they differ, other than being powered by icecap that is?

any images you can share, they would answer numorous questions by themselves.

cant wait to see what the team-hwork has come up with :D

nG,
There will be a limited release ready before MACNA. We along with IceCap will have details for stores that will be taking pre-orders.

To save some time, I am reposting a write up ASH was kind enough to write:

Features:

Powered by an IceCap Model 430 & Model 660.

Cooled by a pair of IceCap variable speed fans and Aquactinics' proprietary cooling design technology.

All aluminum construction.

Six IceCap SLR (same excellent reflectors sold with IC retro-kits).

Comes with super clear splash guard shield that increases light levels by reducing lamp's ambient operating temperature.

Comes with a pair of 1-watt top of the line LED actinic moonlights built-in.

IceCap ballasts are enclosed inside the lightweight cool running fixture.

48 Inch design to be; placed directly on the tank, hung by a metal wire hanging system, attached directly to the top of a canopy, hung from easy to install eye hooks or on support legs that will become available soon.

Each VHO ballast has a power wire so with a pair of timers light levels can be fine tuned.

Allows 2, 4 or 6 lamps to be running.

Separately powered LEDs can be timer controlled.

Convenient color coded switches to quickly turn lights on or off.

These OEM installed IceCap ballasts will carry a four year IceCap transferable warranty (ballasts can be removed if needed which avoids need to ever ship the fixture for a repair.)

Initial production will be 6 lamp 54-watt T5HO lamp fixtures in black and in a limited edition blue color to be decided.

This is power in a graceful package made to last in a saltwater environment. Made with the finest components and intelligent design to give you long-lasting value in a fixture you'll be proud to own.

The biggiest difference between this fixture and our current T5 fixtures is what's inside. The new fixture uses IceCap ballasts, dual IC variable speed fans, and IC reflectors. Also, the dimensions for the new fixture are 48" L x 15" W x 4.25" H and has moonlights standard.

Here's a sneak peak of what the fixture will look like.

thanks,

here are a couple of questions that were not addressed that i think most would be interested in:

1. are the reflectors arranged in a curved array like your other t5 fixture or flat like the teks? (any images of the inside yet?)

2. are the actinic leds purple or blue? how difficult would it be to swap them with white ones?

3. are there 3 swtiches to control the 3 sets of lamps, as the release states 2,4,or 6 lamps could be selected to run.

4. whats the msrp on this bad boy?

5. will bulbs be included? (ie curentusa fixtures) or available at a discounted rate (ie seedsetc), or will they be the usual extra addons at full price?

6. when will there be a decision on the 3' fixture (just got my 65g woohoo), and if green lighted, how long before they could potentially hit the shelves.

thanks again, and good luck with the new fixture!

thanks,

here are a couple of questions that were not addressed that i think most would be interested in:

1. are the reflectors arranged in a curved array like your other t5 fixture or flat like the teks? (any images of the inside yet?)

The reflectors are arranged in a slight curved like our other T5 fixtures. Images will be coming soon.

2. are the actinic leds purple or blue? how difficult would it be to swap them with white ones?

The LEDs are the nice deep blue found in the other moonlights IceCap sells. All of the fixtures will have the LEDs built into the fixture standard, it would need to be a custom job for adding white ones.

3. are there 3 switches to control the 3 sets of lamps, as the release states 2,4,or 6 lamps could be selected to run.

There are 2 switches/power cords to control the lamps. What ASH was getting at is that one switch will control 2 lamps and the other 4 lamps. This way you can get the three combinations by either have one or the other or both on.

4. whats the msrp on this bad boy?

We are still working out the details and should have an MSRP stortly.

5. will bulbs be included? (ie curentusa fixtures) or available at a discounted rate (ie seedsetc), or will they be the usual extra addons at full price?

While we are still discussing details, I think it really will be up to the retailer to decide if they want to include any lamps or offer any discount. That being said, we will look into any and all options to help.

6. when will there be a decision on the 3' fixture (just got my 65g woohoo), and if green lighted, how long before they could potentially hit the shelves.

A decision for a 3' version will not be made until after the 4' fixture hits the market and we are happy with the results. But once a decision is made to go ahead with a 3' version it should only be a few short months before they will be ready.

thanks again, and good luck with the new fixture!

Thank you for your questions. I hope this helps answers some of them. If there was anything not clearly explained or if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you,

Tom

I spent a lot of time checking out the new Solar Flare at both Tom's booth and at Icecap's booth. These are sweet fixtures! Not only do they look sleek and have built in LED moonlights but they are much brighter than my Tek light. Congrats on an awesome product!

Hi Tom... Any chance of a 20"or 24" 4 bulb fixture? Thanks Mike.

Mike,

There is always the possibility. As of right now we do not have any 24" T5 fixtures in the works. To help us better understand the needs for people requesting 24" T5 fixtures, what size tank would this go on and what types of corals would you plan on keeping? Also, would you be looking for a 4 lamp standard T5 HO fixture or one overdriven by IceCap ballasts?

Thank you,

Tom

Logan,
The Solar Flares are available and have begun to ship. Due to backlog of fixture orders, turn around time from placing an order to shipping is around a week.

Tom, I'm considering going to a full t5 system. Would you mind to give me your input on what lighting I should go with. Here (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=10321209#post10321209)
is a thread that I started asking the SPS guys about t5 fixtures. Also, do you make a 72" Solar Flare? Thank you!

Aquactinics

Medicine Man,

Currently we do not make a 72" Solar Flare. Our 72" Constellation fixture would be more then suffice for your tank. I actually use that fixture on my 180ga with no heating problems at all. I would use at least 4 rows (8 lamps) of daylights.

Thank you,

Tom
