N.O. flourescent lighting, the kind that comes standard with hood or full tank set up. You don't "need" anything more than that because you have no corals. Coraline Algea will also "flourish" under no lighting so long as you keep a calcium level of at least 400. Hope that Helps.

Im sorry, I don't mean to be offensive. BUT, what exactly would he/she need T5's for????????? It won't grow the rock or fish and he/she has no corals........

if you get t5s now, later on down the road if he/she wanted to go reef then there would be no upgrading involved. i think you should at least go t5 because eventually everyone turns to the darkside. :)

Irregardless of what I was going to put in my tank if I had it to do all over again I think I would have looked more into doing T-5. They are very small and the light spectrum is great for the display. They use less energy and leaves more space in you hood if you have one. Smaller heated surface and lower wattage means less head. That would be the key benefit.

Both coker98 and dp122098, I do hope I didn't offend anyone, and you both made GREAT points. dp, Im the same way, and your absolutely right. BUT he/she made NO mention of going reef, he/she asked "specifically" about a fowlr tank. Again, sorry if I offended.

Good Luck and Happy Reefing,
