View Full Version : Pic of my future sump, should I skip a polyfilter?

Here's why I ask.
It's a 75 gallon tank.

My hopes for it:
A small school of pseudanthias thompsoni (most likely species)
A chelmon rostratus (copperband butterfly) (that's eating),
A pair of amphiprion clarkii clowns <--- I may switch to a smaller species
& Elvis my mysis-eating mandarin.

This is going to be mostly a large polyp/softy tank, with slower fish.

I also realize the pseudanthias are zooplankton feeders..

I'm wondering if avoiding a thick polypad, & just using that cross-stitching screening as a sump "strainer" instead of a "filter" would benefit at all for smaller organisms within the system... ?

Also, is there any room for more livestock? Opinions on one or any of the following?
fairy wrasse (I would love a cirrhilabrus laboutei)
pair of twin spot gobies (signogobius biocellatus)
pair of pseudochromis... (still researching species)

I don't want too heavy of a bioload, and I know the pseudanthias are frequent feeders. I just realized yesterday that... none of the fish would really control the algae any. hmm...

i use them all over the place... i say use them. as far as adding new fish goes.. do it slow. yo have a lot of small fish on that list so i dont really see a problem but at the same rate you dont want to rush it...

Do you think that there would be benefit in having my circulation system separate from my filtration system?

Would having the two systems separated increase the smaller natural food available to the pseudanthias?
