View Full Version : Question for Tunze Users
Hey guys,
Two questions for you Tunze users.
1) I was wondering if you regularly change your settings, or have you just found a nice setting for your tank's setup and always keep it at that?
2) Is there regular maintenance to do on these tunze's? Such as taking them out to clean them or oil certain parts?
Thanks

I found a good setting for my tank and I leave alone.

I found a good setting as well and leave it alone.
I clean the Tunze's every 2 months, no need to do anything else.

Just like Mr. Popeil is so fond of saying "Set it and forget it."
I found a good setting, too, but lately I was thinking why not vary it once in a while and make it feel more like nature, where different tides and currents keep things always varying.
I haven't cleaned mine since I bought it (6 months ago). By cleaning do you guys mean just opening up and cleaning the inside, scrubbing coraline algae off of them, or what?

I have a setting a like and I leave it. As for cleanings, I've only done it once so far, but am going to stay on top of it, once every 3 months.
Depending on how new your Tunzes are, it's easy to clean. You take out the magnetic propeller, and there's not much to do. I used a vinegar solution to clean inside the chamber, and the propeller itself, and that's about it. Cleaned up the outside, (left the coralline) and that was that.

I have 6080,s so dont have to worry about settings. :D
Cleaning them is very important. Take them apart carefully and soak in a water/vinegar solution. Not the little or large "o" rings though. Make sure to pull the bushing off the impellar to soak and brush, as it gets calcified there.
I had an "apart" picture, on a stream pump thread somewhere in the Tunze forum.

After getting a set of nasty dirty Tunzes that I bought used,
It'd be a good idea to clean them every 6-9 months. Soak them in vinegar/warm water. Pull out the drive unit and clean it with a soft toothbrush. You may need to pull the bearing out of the bottom, you can use a dental pick or screws.
It may be useful to read the thread in the Tunze forum. It is a sticky, you can't miss it.
Thanks guys I"ll clean them once they hit the 9month mark.

the controllable ones actually beep when they get clogged up, so i clean them when they tell me. unless i get a rare burst of motivation.
