I have a 175W MH setup, and want to run just that. I currently have a 10,000K XM, and nothing seems to fluoresce. I am thinking of getting the Iwasaki 14,000K, or the AB 13,000.

Does anyone have experience with a single 175w MH over a reef? Could you recommend a bulb?

What size tank are we looking to light? What types of corals?

I had a 175 20k over a 18"sq cube.

I was running a hamilton bulb till it went out, I bought the next thing I found on the internet and it made for a HUGE algae outbreak. Other than that, it was a great set-up.

Moral of the story:
Buy a quality bulb. Many are using a XM bulb with nothing negative to say about it. The hamilton was a great bulb for me, I would go with them again, or I wouldnt be scared to try out the xm bulb. On the kalvin rating...I would get a 14k.
