ok so i use instant ocean salt and was wondering if others do or if there is a better salt to use that runns around the same cost i have seen several types of salt but ihave never really heard of most of them what do you use

+1 for instant ocean. Don't change what works, especially in this hobby.

ok from what i have read a 50/ 50 mix of IO and Ocean is the best.. that said i live next to Marine dept and get what they sell... seachem reef.. cant complain....

when considering what is "best" its good to keep in mind its given purpose.
for example, for a non reef saltwater tank, IO is probably perfect, however for reefing some seem to find it lacking due to its low calcium levels.
conversely, oceanic is thought of highly because of its high calcium levels, hower, its alk seems to be on a low side, while IO is on the high side.
thats why youll see a lot of reefers mixing the two as they compliment each other very well and creat a very good mix for a reef tank.
there are other salts that are high q as well on their own, but most are pricey, like tropic marin.
when i get enough corals in the tank that need the calcium levels i will look into that mixture, as i have a petsmart neaby and they pricematch their online pricing making them both rather inexpensive to buy.
