if you keep caulerpa you should run the lights 24 hours a day. caulerpa can go asexual and reproduce by iteself, and in that act it releases nitrates it has consumed back into the water. if you want a more reliable macro algae, you should get some chaetomorpha. it cannot do that, and its grows quick too, but not as fast as caulerpa. i have both in my 15 gal fuge.

as far as substrate, put livesand in there, or if you can afford it, miracle mud, that is the best, but its pricey.

you have 60lbs in your main tank? experts recommend 1-1.5 pounds per gallon, that being said, at least 60 gals should be in your tank... so you could add some rubble to yoru fuge and it will be fine.

caulerpa and chaeto both require good light and slow flow. i have 2 55 watt PC's over my 15 gal fuge... thats 7.3 wpg, and its growing very fast, i have 1-10k and 1 act power compact.
