I plumbed my first sump this weekend, and it works.
Big step forward for me in being ready to set up my reef.
The tank a 90 long, into a 15 G sump
90G, FW, cichlids, 200 +/- gph thru sump, another 400 +/- gph circulation in tank.
I am seeing almost exactly 1 gal evap per 24 hrs
Is this a "normal" evap rate?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, like I said it's my first sump.
I see the importance of an auto top off, as all the evap shows in the return compartment.

My diy rock is almost cured!
The countdown continues!

1 gallon every day would be good. Our 150 with 55gal sump evaporates as much as 5-6 gallons (on the very hot dry days during the summer). Average is about 3-4 gallons every day year round, like I said its only on the rare occasions it gets that high.

Same here. I have a 160 and I drop about 5 gallons a day last week during our California heat wave. Today I added about 3 gallons

Thanks to all for the input.
Swamp (evaporative) cooler runs in the house all summer, I would expect evap to go up in the winter when ambient humidity drops even more.
