Hey Roger, I just installed a wavebox and was wondering with the night mode photocell what happens to the wavebox? Does it turn completely off? I only have the wavebox for movement now so if I have the photocell turn on will I not have any movement at all? Should i just keep the wave on the whole time?

It turns it off completely at night, it is largely personal preference but I don't use the photocell.

Thanks Roger, one other quick question. The one wavebox should be enough in my tank shouldn't it? And also, does it lower the water level in your sump?

What size tank? It generally doesn't affect sump water level much but it depends on the overflow position and flow rate through the sump.

the tank is a 120 48x24x24

One is enough, the wave should be about 3/4"

yup, your right on. I feel like i get more flow with the wavebox compared to my 2x6000s. I don't have any other flow in the tank now besides the returns which is still minimal. Thanks for your help!

so one wavebox with no other streams is good for sps?

No, you would want to have Streams or a closed loop, I was referring to the fact you don't need an extension to get a wave.

would 1 6000 and the wavebox be sufficient? Thanks for your help!

Roger, I added one 6000. Should i put it on its own single controller or should I put it on the slave port to the wavebox?

I would put two 6000's in there if you have them, on a multicontroller

im not certain but i believe the slave port on the wavebox is for a wavebox extension, not a stream

It depends what you keep, I use one 6000 and a wavebox on my 120 and I am pleased with the results, I keep mainly LPS, a lot of acanths.

Roger, do you have your 6000 connected to the slaveport or to its own controller? I put the other 6000 on my slaveport for now just to get it flowing and it seems to work fine. Waves actually make a small ripple now.

I have mine connected to a multicontroller. The wavebox port doesn't really give you the flow effect you want- a directional flow source. You could use just a single controller but I wanted the future capacity.

sounds good. Thanks again Roger!

Roger,

I have a question about the wavebox, what is its rated water flow? How many gallons per hour does it process?

thanks,

Matt

That isn't easily answered, it depends on tank size and layout, you have to multiply the volume of the wave it creates by the frequency of the wave.
