My tank, in the past, had coralline primarilly in the back of my tank. Now, it has developed to the front and side glass of my tank. Is this normal? Should I scrape it? Any help would be appreciated!

Scrape it now or it will get out of control!

Thanks for the quick response. Do you know what causes the spreading of this algae so I may control it?

Nutrients. You can cotrol it with scraping or get a black urchin.

You can also lower your alk to the lower end of the band, this will slow the coralline growth

nutrients are found from silicates or phosphates in your water, overfeeding, and decaying anything. I am having a little trouble with cyanobacteria right now. light also plays into this.

Coralline algae LOVES actinic lights!

COralline algae generally grows in the same conditions as corals. In another words, if your tank is running well, and promoting coral growth, then you will likely get coralline growth. However, if you have enough stoney corals, they will out compete the coralline somewhat.

Yeah i agree i am trying to get MORE coralline in my tank using "Purple Up" which supplies calcium, and many other essentials, it also helps supply my corals with nutrients so i'd welcome as much of it as i can get.

Purple up is a joke, do a search in Randys forum.

Purple up is calcium carbonate which is not soluble in our reefs unless you let your ca reactor run wild and drive the pH down so low everything else is dead including what little corraline you do have.
