The MR-1 will be to small for your tank,a MR-2 would be about the right size with the right size pump. The pump is the key to make a MRC skimmer work right. MD55RLT Iwaki would be a good one.

That skimmer is more than enough for a 55 gallon, I actually think you would be over skimming the tank. which could be good or bad depending on what you are planning on keeping in the tank. I noticed that the skimmer has the old beckett injector, MRC has improved this part of the skimmer. The skimmer also requires a rather large pump and they are not the most silent skimmer on the market, but they do skim very good.

The old or new holder for the beckett will make little different in the out put of the MRC skimmer it just make better to take it a part i have had both holders.

the fact it has the older injecter makes me wonder if it truely is new (might just be an old pic though and not the units they are selling now). but why pay 250 to buy one that may or may not be used on ebay when you can get a brand new one for the same price direct from andy?

i had an old mr-1 on my 50+30+30 setup a while back and it did fantastic (better than the monster deltec i replaced it with, probably just because the D was *way* too big). i got the mr-1 as part of a trade, if i was buying a new one i'd go for the mr-2 since it's only 50 bucks more but has a much larger riser. even though it worked very well, the 4.5" tube seemed a bit small. just use a smaller pump if you are worried about overskimming.

A new beckett skimmer , 8 in dia riser 12 in high,no union,# 2 riser 41/2 dia 4 in high .That from the top of the #1 riser to the bottom of the collect cup .The #2 riser any higher than 4 in is a waste no matter what mrc you buy.You can get more out of a beckett with a 4 in high #2 riser.
