Activated carbon like what you can find at marine depot:

Bioballs arent carbon. They are little plastic balls to grow bacteria on.

Carbon cleans the water. You put it in a filter bag/sock so it does'nt blow all over in your sump.
I use chemi-pure which already comes in it's own bag.

so i get a filter sock and carbon and what area of the sump do i put it? It goes from the tank to the protein skimmer area to a refugium to the return area.

Somewhere between the skimmer section and the fuge probably. You can also run it after.

I think he may be talking about the older type twopart balls that you could fill with carbon.

Activated carbon
Use a reactor=best
filter sock in a flowing area=will work
