I bought a feather duster about 10 days ago and I'm wondering if he's dead, dying, or just acting normal. I haven't seen him in about 7 days. The first 3 days he came out about 1/3 of the way and that was it. Now I never see him but his position is moving. He started out laying on the sand and now his "shell" is slowly moving to a more of a vertical position. Is this normal for them to hide for a while or should I worry?

Give it some time.

I would not do anything to it yet. The sometimes disappear for awhile. Additinally I read just the other day that they can lose there feathers but can and most times do regrow them.

If the creature dies the hermits if you have them in your tank and maybe even snails will clean up the mess. I would wait it out. My feather duster so is new to my tank by 3 weeks. So far he is out all the time unless startled.

I would just wait it out especially if you still see movement by the duster.

Regards,

Pat

I had a feather duster die on me because he lost his crown for no reason but tried moving and got caught in one of my powerheads during the night.
