black tar like stuff on my live rock?

i got a shipment of caribbian rock the other day and there are several spots on the rock where there is a black tar like substance on the rock it will scrape off but im pretty new to this and dont know if i should or not scrape it off any help?

It may be liver sponge, do you have pics?

no i dont have a digital camera but its really slimy not squishy at all

its an aglae, and not a good one. Seen it before. My advice PRESSURE WASH THE ROCK!!

Hmm, here are some pics, this is the base of a zoo that isnt doing so hot, barely had any polyps when i got it, its making a come back... but here is what its base looks like.

I had to move it once, and it left some of that same black material you see in the pic on the piece of rock it was sitting on.

that might be it but that looks like its raised off the rock more than the stuff I have mine is like a slick smooth greasy substance
