View Full Version : shortening the length of the tank by cutting it in half?

After picking up a free 55g acrylic tank that's 48"L but to my disappointment, the inside of my stand is only 47"L

since it's going to be a sump, appearance is only half important.

I'm thinking maybe if I can cut 1.75" in the middle of the tank and them putting the 2 pcs back together. To increase the strength I will use 2 thin strips of acrylic along all the seams on the inside of the tank. Making a custom sump is out of my budget @ the moment.

I think you can do that.....IMO

Just use the end peice from the cut out for the end of the shortened tank. Use Weld-On #4 to glue the acrylic....
