Okay folks. You asked for it . What livestock do you want and where should we order it from. I realize a few of you left your wants and needs on the other thread, but please put them on this thread also.
Has anybody had any success with some of the newer businesses posting on the web such as Sharky's or BlueZoo Aquatics? Sound off here and get your two cents worth in quick. I think an order placed at the beginning of next week would be a good starting off point. I can act as the delivery point if you all are agreeable with the idea.

I'm open for referrals... someone reliable who'll stand behind their product is what I'm looking for... with a great price of course!

I had a bad experience at Sharkys.
I ordered zoa's last year and they sent me different ones than I ordered.
Then they told me they'd give me $40 credit and I keep the zoa's they sent. I said OK. Then they told me they have a minimum order of $100 and I had to spend $100 again to get my credit.
I'm like but but but you sent me the wrong items ( it was more than 1) that's not right.
It took some fighting but they finally sent my money back instead.
I would have taken the credit had they not make me spend another $100.
I REALLY do like their zoa's though. I just don't like the policy of minimum $100 order if something goes wrong.
I would maybe give them a second chance though. Their pictures look like they have nice stuff lol.
Let us know where you plan to order.
That can be a problem to as some want fish, shrimp and some want corals. Some places don't have alot of both.
I still have $40 in credit from reefscience to lol from a yr ago but don't wanna spend $50 in shipping to get it.

I ordered from Blue zoo. I got some snails.
They were super nice and shipped everything packaged as you would expect.
The livestock seemed to do OK despite the fact that Fedex left the package on my back porch in April without even knocking on the door in 50 degree weather!
I think that I had considerably short lives on those animals due to this.
But, their service was great and they were ready to make it right even though it was Fedex that screwed up.

Oh, sorry for the double, I'd be interested in a royal gramma and maybe a pair of ocellaris or perculas.

I haven't actually gotten anything from Sharky's and his stuff looks good, but I tried to get an order a couple times and it didn't work out. 1 order had a starfish in it and I waited a couple weeks to ship it (he had something going on that delayed it) then when he was finally ready to ship it he said it wasn't looking healthy so my order was cancelled. Which I can appreciate, I don't want someone to send me something that's going to die right away frm the stress of shipping. Then it got better and I was going to get that and a RBTA, some hermits and some other stuff about a month later after the starfish was doing better, but then when he was going to ship it he changed his mind and said starfish was a no-go again. And then my order was too small. So anyway, I didn't get anything bad from there, it just didn't go smooth. That was over a year ago though, and I wouldn't think it was typical.
I've never gotten aything from Reeftopia but I've read a lot of good stuff about it. Looks like a great place to get cleaning crew, shrimp, etc, great prices on those. But if people are looking for fish the selection is very limited, and just has some gorgonians and mushrooms/ricordia.
I don't need anything so I wouldn't be going in on this anyway, just throwing out some info for anyone who's interested. :)

Reeftopia has great stuff, but a limited assortment. Their prices are very good also. I just thought that maybe someone had found someplace new to order from. Places seem to pop up on the web on a daily basis. When consensus is reached on where to shop I will figure out what to order. By the way BlueZoo Aquatics looked interesting.

I have purchased twice from saltwaterfish.com
very hardy animals. service is iffy though. They dont ship right away, but i think that they may be willing to work with you on that. I've never tried to talk to an actual human being there, so I cannot comment on service.

I am looking for a small, unusual, goby and some LPS/Zoos.
Liveaquaria actually seems to have a pretty good selection right now. I don't see anything at reeftopia that looks interesting, I'll have to look through bluezoo when I get off work.
jandlms
08/08/2006, 11:34 AM
Doesn't Liveaquaria.com seem a little expensive for what you get? I also hope we can find a place that has a little more variability in the corals that are purchased. What I mean is that the info - 2 to 3" piece of caulastrea for 29.99 - doesn't tell me much. Boy do I miss Gooch's corals.

Agreed....
Tagging along... I'd like to put something with this order when an agreement on where from is reached. I'm good for at least a couple items... Jon knows I never seem to get enough angels... or Grammas... I wish I was ready for that 300 to be filled, I wanted to add like 20 grammas and 15 pygmy angels... but we can save that for a different order.
I know this is elementry, but what are the sites for Blue Zoo and Sharky's? I made a quick pass, and got some shopping mall and something about a beer made by Sharky himself....

my order:
Peppermint Shrimp - Group of 5 - $19.99
oh argh! Well that's all for now... gotta do some research before I add anything else!
I've had orders in from multiple places (Sharky's Reef, Reeftopia, LiveAquaria, Fraggle Reef, Just Coral, Under the Sea Coral...I could go on and on). I've never dealt with saltwaterfish.com thought, so I'm no help there. F&S (liveaquaria) has always been my first choice for actual fish. For corals, it's kind of whatever they've got on hand. Does swfish.com have a similar guarantee to LA?
I'm nowhere near reaqdy to order anything right now, but in a couple months I'll likely be placing orders from a variety of places every couple weeks, or at least once a month. I'll always ask at that point.

You know, I can likely throw together a couple of 10g tanks for these guys, so if you put the order together, put me down for these:
1 group of 5 peppermint shrimp
5 lettuce nudibranchs

I have ordered from them a couple of times, never any quantity discount but instead they give you free livestock depending on how much you have ordered.
Just a word of caution on Saltwaterfish.com. IF you have problems with your order don't look for great customer service like you find with F&S and some of the other vendors out there. They have pretty sucky customer service.
Not to burst anyones fun with the group order, just something that myself and others have found out.

It is kind of a crapshoot when you are dealing with livestock that you don't see before you buy. Even the what you see is what you get type of sale can be disappointing when you see what can and has been done to livestock pictures with a little computer enhancement. The prices and the selection just keep me coming back to mailorder every so often.

Don't know why you guys want to support an outfit like saltwaterfish.com ~ especially with a large order. You would all be better off going with liveaquaria IMO. Saltwaterfish often bans members of their own forums who complain of poor customer service and faulty orders. A company such as this does not deserve your business. Check out some of the vendor feedback forums here and you will see what I mean. Liveaquaria is a far better choice hands down.

FYI about the lettuce nudis it says limit 2.
Also I read in vender feedback theres about an $18 surcharge so shipping is'nt really free.
Ive never ordered from them so can't comment myself. I have seen bad feedback for them though.
What bothered me is theres no phone number if something goes wrong. It's all emails.
I doubt I'll order anything anyway lol so don't go by me.
I think the fish and inverts might be ok but don't like to order corals if it is'nt wyswyg.

They have a bad rating by the Better Business Bureau, no phone number to contact, block e-mails of unhappy customers and have a bad track record with large orders.
Why support such a business when we have a highly regarded in-state company like Dr. Foster's and Smith?
Well, if they're limiting the number of lettuce nudis, then it doesn't make any sense for me to keep my order then. Let me know if you decide to switch vendors...LA has good deals on Sexy shrimp!

It might have changed. I looked into them about 6 months or so ago. It really is up to you guys though. My feelings are this ~ if they choose to screw over just a few of their customers that's enough for me to not support their business.
Here are some quotes from some unhappy customers:
"Its like flipping a coin. You may get a decent order or you may not. If your not satisfied the chances of getting any issues resolved are slim to none." ~ NiTr0x911
"If you have a problem with your order. Good luck contacting them by phone. Apparently this is their easy way out - not dealing with unhappy customers. I suppose you stand 50/50 chance of recieving a good order though." ~ Melody
"I have had good experiances and I also had a bad. They have NO number to call to speak to anyone. IMO you can find a much better vendor to buy from. I personally will not buy from them again. I had some inverts die, sent emails and got rude reply, then posted to their board. It was removed as from the board and the thread deleted." ~ Texas Dolly
"My experience with them has been terrible. I have threads in this forum describing my ordeal. They provide ZERO customer service if you have an issue. They went so far as blocking my ability to send them e-mail when I tried to resolve my problems with them. As you've probably noticed, they provide no phone number for contact. As was recommended above, do a search here and you will find many others with similar, bad experiences. Do your research on this place, you'll be glad you did." ~ Norm R

The Better Business Bureau rates them as satisfactory for the past year. There is no rating available beyond that. They also list approximately a dozen complaints that have gone through them that apparently aren't enough to raise a flag for the bbb. Maybe 13 complaints causes them to be unsatisfactroy. I don't know their criteria for ratins.
I think the main reasons for looking at saltwaterfish.com were.
1. Prices - A pygmy angel for swf costs 9.99 while LA charges 23.99.
2. Selection - they haev some things in stock that other organizations like reeftopia just don't stock.
3. The urge to try someplace different and see what their critters are like.
This has been a good discussion folks but it is time to fish or cut bait.
By the way RCS I have an email to SWF to see about your 5 nudis. In either case I believe that we can "sneak" your five through because we are a group.
I am slo checking on the "surcharge" and whatever games they are playing with shipping.
Do we go through with the order tomorrow? Reply ASAP.

the fees for the order are
$9.99 surcharge (I think this is like a box fee or something)
and a $6.99 fuel surcharge that the shipper has imposed upon them.
This is what they charged me on my last order which was only two weeks ago.
The stories about customer service are correct. it is impossible to contact them unless they want to be contacted. But, I think I alluded to that on the first page of this thread.
I'm along for the ride whatever the group decides collectively.
I am even willing to kick in a few extra bucks to help defray the $16.98 in costs.

My vote is that we table this for 7 days. During those 7 days, we look at other sites and costs, and if a new concenesus is reached by wednesday/thursday am this comming week, we change.
I am by no means "hurting" for livestock. I actually have a few things I could put into the trading ring... but I certainly could wait another week. The alternative is , sorry to say it, get burned. If anyone wants a site of a ebay user to buy from to feel what it's like to get burned, I certainly could provide a few.
I also have no desire to force a bad situation, for two primary reasons. First, I value Jons inititive and extended offer for running this thru his source of funds. though I have every intention of reimbursing him, I have no desire to force a bad situation. I think that the last couple buys have gone well. Second. I could wait a couple more days, as I have learned that a serious hobbiest once told me that nothing good ever happens fast in a reef tank. The fish WILL be available from someone next week. Lets take a step back, if only for 7 days.
Spike, I was being quite serous about a large quantities of each of those Angels and Grammas, but maybe not quite that many... I recently got the Angelfishes and Basseletts book, and have fallen in love with the idea that there will be NO damsels (excluding clowns) in the 300. The plan that I have for it, will increase the active water to well over 700 gallons, though the tank will be only 300. The final numbers of these two fish have not been decided yet, but will be high.
I noticed while diving in the Dominican Rep, that everywhere I looked on the coral heads, I saw Angels... lots of them. Then I noticed alot of Gramma like fish. Of course, a few gobies and jaw fish...
I have a really neat plan for the 300. I have completed phase 1 of the 5 part process, but have been temporarily distracted by upgrading my 30 gallon lifeboat reef, to a 75 gallon prop tank. I just laid the block for the stand this weekend. It will be 40" off the ground... and almost at optimal viewing height.
I have some great ideas for the 300, and still waiting for someone who has the patience to come over and listen to them, and offer suggestion and look for pitfalls with me. Your always welcome. (Open ended offer to spike and everyone...) I'm not ready for a meeting though.
EDITED - because it was so long, Dan snuck in something else for me to comment on...
I also offer the couple $ extra as the order isn't truely costing the cost of the livestock... there are hiden costs. I also offer a suggestion, that there be a nominal offer to the person doing the order, like .25 or .50 per item, to offset their costs, to make it worth thier while. This is something that I suggest the club "take up" at a meeting, and agree on a general suggestion... for me, I would have no problem, flipping Jon an extra 1.75 to 3.50 (purely as an example) for his trouble, maybe more... If you've ever seen the mess and the hoops you have to jump thru, or if you have done it, you quickly wonder how you got in the middle of it.
Dang, that added another paragraph.

Just a reality check. The same items I signed up for, that I could live without, from Saltwaterfish.com that came to 74$, come to the following...132$ from Liveaquaria.com
SW - Pygmy (Cherub) Angelfish (Caribbean) $ 23.99 X2
CN-71432 SW - Jawfish, Yellowhead (Caribbean) $ 22.99 X2
CN-78439 SW - Banded Coral Shrimp - Medium $ 8.99 X2
CN-80383 SW - Ricordea Mushroom, Blue/Green (Caribbean) $ 19.99
I am by no means suggesting that they are not worth the $. But I would need to re-evaluate my order. These dollar amounts do not include the charges that Kiowascout was just referring to.

You guys might want to check out http://www.reefhotspot.com. You are going to pay a bit more for some things but the selection and customer service is top notch. The owner makes sure all fish are feeding and have no visible damage to them. That's why you pay a little bit more. Many of the corals they have you won't see at liveaquaria. They also have a nice WYSIWYG section. I would consider joining in on the order if you guys went with them. Some of the larger LPS and other corals could be fragged and split up to cut down on the costs.
They have a Monastrea coral in the LPS section for $64 that is just amazing:

Most of the stuff we seem to want is available at reeftopia.com and the prices are good there also. I jsut wish they had more of a selection. The site that Spike mentions has some nice prices on a few of the fish we were looking for and the corals are to die for, but the prices on some of the corals (maybe we could split a few pieces). That montastrea !WOW!
Keep up the search!

You could always do a couple different orders at different places like Bri guy suggested, one now and maybe wait a little while and another for fish & corals or something. I was looking through what you guys want and reeftopia has most of what peple are looking for (peppermint shrimp, nudibranches, royal gramma, ricordia, conchs, crabs, etc), and it comes pretty close to $120. ($120 is the magic free shipping number, plus $10 fuel charge).

Another thing to consider is most places are not going to be stocked as much as they will be by September. August is probably one of the slowest months of the year in the industry.
EDIT ~ I forgot to add that Fragglereef.com is pretty good place for hard to find corals and might be a good place to consider in the future.

If we did make an order to saltwaterfish I'd take a chance and order the shrimp from them just because the price is so good... too good?
Jessica,
The reason that the prices are so low on those Peppermint Shrimp
is that they are absolutely tiny, I know because just before the F&S frag swap I got some from them. When they arrived I though the bag was empty of livestock and just had a piece of plastic window screen in it (they ship shrimp with screen in the bag to give them something to hang onto during shipping). Upon a very closer look I did indeed find 5 shrimp in the bag. So small (1/4" or smaller) that if I would have put them in my big tank my Six Line Wrasse would have ate them for lunch. I put them into a small tank with no fish to grow them out and they are now of a decent size. In fact if you are looking for just one and are going to the Sept. meeting I can part with one if you want.
I have ordered from Saltwaterfish.com a few times but agreed in my head that if there was a problem with something I was going to take the loss. Luckily only things to die were small inverts that did not cost much.
Liveaquaria.com on the other hand I have always had above normal good customer service whenever there was a problem. They always took care of me and I have only good things to say about them. I am sure there are other good vendors out there but those are the only two I have ordered livestock from.
Ron
Just to throw it out there, have we considered trying to work with a local store? We used to have one store in TN that would match online prices for us and the guarantee.
Spike, you have any thoughts on this? I'm sure it depends on the supplier, as prives vary widely. As it was, the store we worked with in TN ordered from the same supplier as LiveAquaria.
What about Coral Boy Farms up in Green Bay?

I know everyone keeps throwing websites out there lol
Ive ordered from this guy a cpl times before.
It's where I got most of my nice rics and some gorgonians and zoa's.
He is very limited because he dives and collects everything in Florida but he has top notch service and shipping.
His rics and corals are nice and colorful.
He always added extra rics to my order and gave me better prices than the website to lol.
He doesnt have free shipping but it's very reasonable.
http://sealifeflorida.com
example of the few things he does have that you guys were looking for
yellowhead jawfish $12.50 or mated pair $30 (which is what you would need Jason if placing 2 in same tank)
pygmy angels $15
royal grammas $12
lettuce sea slugs $6
emerald crab $4.50
red mithrex crab $5
blue leg hermits .60 or 50 for $20
porcelain crab $7.50
coral banded shrimp $9 or mated pair for $20
gold banded $8.50 or mated pair for $25
green ric $7.50
orange ric $12.50

large blue ric $20

I would pass on SWF.com. A group order to a place like that can and would probably be a headache.
I have been to Sharkey's. I hand picked some awesome corals from his tanks. Was happy with what I have........I should say very happy.
Jimmy's Reef is another place that has just awesome corals. Also been here and can not say enough good things. Had more exotic stuff in one place than anywhere I have ever been combined.

I have never purchased anything from Edens Gate Corals but have dealt with him and chatted with him over the years. I have known him and Jimmy for years and personally vouche for both of them. They will bust but to make you happy.
Jimmy's is in Chicago not far from Sharkey's.......you may even be able to combine a group order through both. They have a good working relationship.
I would get into a group order from either of these three if I had my tank up and running.
Shipping shouldn't kill from these sources either. The farthest out is OHIO.

Kathy, sorry for the delay getting back to you. I'm out of town moving my daughter into her dorm room, so I have limited access to a computer. I can't really do much on price, and our selection is a little limited this week. If you can wait until next week, I'll have more fish and invertebrates listed on the website, and you'd be able to get a better selection of stuff. I'm also planning to add a price for small colonies of zoanthids, so maybe the smaller colonies would fit your needs better than the present selection. Ken

Well I actually counted and everything came out on the head... like the 100's of crabs I bought... or 50 lots.. to the head.... and worse, some die in shipping.
The ole "Don't count your chickens..."
I would be interested in a bulk buy on crabs again... I have a few hangers on... and need to get some to help with this algae. Looking at the ones on SLF - does anyone know if you need the diversity between the reds and the blues... the reds seem pricy to do 20.... for example... I was going to do 50 of the blue, and a couple (4) emerald crabs or does someone wanna opinionate that for me... I don't know and am willing to listen.
I have to say I feel good about this site, did anyone see the Urchin Evacuation link at the bottom? I think we should, if the order goes well, add a stick thread of places to buy from with good environmental ethics.
Jason
Personally, I'm not a big fan of crabs in the aquarium. I usually stick to the small blue hermits if any at all. Emeralds and anything of that ilk I stay away from completely. Even the small chance they have of catching and eating fish is too much for me. Snails are usually better algae eaters anyway...
I guess I'll have to check out the site and maybe revise my order if he's changed stuff.

Jason,
I know the emerald crabs have worked for me in the past to take care of bubble algae (valonia). They never seemed to do much with hair algae for me. Also, basicsafty (sp?) wanted a few bluelegs. Maybe you guys could hook up for a larger amount.

I like to have some hermits in my tank but the turbos in my 55 are what eat alot of the algae and I have astreas in my nano just cuz turbos are pretty big for that tank. They do a good job in there.
As far as freebies I just know I ordered twice from him and got several freebies both times. Some of the rics and gorgs I ordered he sent 2 instead of 1. Thats all I know lol.

I asked him if he was adding more yet or done and he said he'd prolly add a few more things yet to the site.
So far I think I might get a jawfish lol wonder why (dunno if I should even try another in there), and maybe that blenny for the nano.I like the rusty goby too but blennys are usually more fun.
A red mithrax for my 55 and some sea lettuce for my tangs.
I want some blue zoa's but can't decide which and can't afford em all lol. He doesnt rem. which ones he sold me. He thinks those were the yellow eye.

Going to update my order here:
1 lime green ricordea
1 orange ricordea
small Blue zoanthid cluster
5 neon blue zoa polyps
small yellow-eyed zoanthid cluster

As far as red and blue hermits the red will become larger then the blue. I have had both for years and try to stock around one per gallon. I kept between 55 and 75 in my 55 gallon. I have no clue as to how many are in my 120 I put a 100 in to start and have added 50 since then. you have to allow for molting accidents where they became fresh food when they exit there shells to molt. Next time we order from reeftopia I will get at least 50 more.
I have always kept emeralds as well and as Jon said they are great for bubble algae. I also know they feed on other micro algaes as well as I have watched an emerald feed for an hour on some type of algae I could not see. I have had emeralds feast on hair algae but there is no guarantee they will eat it. I am trying the Red Mitrax Crab on this order as the description states these are the emeralds cousin which are actually collected off of the reefs.

We have had emerald crabs since shortly after we started, they've never hurt anything, and have kept the buble algea under control. They ate some hair algea when we had it (was fun to watch!) but never enough to make a difference. We had 4 in our 75g, then they gradually all died. Or so we thought, we didn't see any for a 4-5 months. Finally got 4 more a few months ago. Then a couple weeks ago a mongo emerald shows up! It can't be from the latest batch because those were quite small, compared to the others we see this guy is 3-4 times as big with huge claws!! It's weird that we never saw him, he must have been a survivor from one of the first batches and finally decided to show himself. Either that or he found some kind of crab steroids in the tank! I'm alittle concerned because he's so big that he's going to catch a ish, but none of them seem to care about him. Actually I think the blenny messes with him, it swims by him quite often and it seems like it's on purpose, gets his claws raised every time!

I see he added a few more fish including an atlantic blue tang (which is yellow as a juv.) I used to have one of those in my 150 and really liked it. Was cool to see it change from yellow to blue.
I wish he'd quit adding stuff lol cuz I can't decide.

Okay folks.
I just got a return email from Ken at FloridaSeaLife. I told him I would have the order to him Saturday night so he can ship it out Monday morning. Therefore the deadline for this order is 4PM (Central time) on Saturday. PM me your order if it has changed from what you wanted last week. PM me only!!!!!!
So far I have orders from Kiowa, BryanJ,Basicsfty, Debsisflo, JMkarcz, and RCS.
Kass, Mako, and anyone else wanting to get involved. Get me your orders!
By the way, we seem to have a lot of orders for small zoo colonies of various colors. I will try and get a better deal on these colonies by combing and ordering larger colonies. If anyone has a problem with thius let me know ASAP (by PM).
Also by the way. Don't get excited by the rumors of FREE STUFF. If and when we receive some, it will be divided up equally among the participants of the order. Be here quickly to pick up your order and you can take your pick of anything we get as a group. Wait too long and suffer getting the half dead domino damsel (or whatever) that is often the way cool FREE STUFF that comes with orders. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, I just don't want anyone getting bent about what they get as a freebie.
Good Night and send those PM's

Hey Jon, what kind of timeframe will you be around for pickup today? I'll likely head out there after work...I'm guessing I would be there around 6pm at the earliest, since you're a bit of a haul. Just wanted to make sure that would work for you. Also, do we have totals with shipping?

I've got two angels. A flame and a lemonpeel. Last fish is an ocellaris hosted in my saebe that I got by accident and for free :) Had two clowns (was part of the Reefscience order I split with Kass) and they were the smallest clowns I had ever seen. One took a flying leap to the floor though :( The one left is getting big, and thinks my hand is food. Connie has burned herself on the MH 3 or 4 times from jumping when it goes after her when she's scraping the front. I wanted more than one clown though, so now I have to figure out how, when, what size, and how many and hope it works ok.

Don't let Connie take an emerald please :) I'm not worried about it hurting anything, but it would starve. If offered, she may take it because she thinks it's cute. BUT, she's a freak and likes bubble algae (of which there is none), so if she argues just remind her what the emerald's favorite food is, LOL

2 deaders so far. The jawfish that Kass ordered and my sailfin blenny.
jason, we are saving the consolation freebie (crab of unknown origin and appetities) for you if no one else wants to take a trip to the wild side. Most of the freebies look to be chocolate zoos (and the crab). One bag of freenies was mushy and smelled nasty so was dumped. One bag has one stalk of caulerpa (the frond type). I'm keeping the extra freebie of caulerpa. You are all welcome to a 10% slice of it now or as much as you can carry when it grows in my sump). I keep looking in the bag for something else but its just this little piece of caulerpa.
Oh well, the freebie zoos are nice and they are by definition good zoos because they were free zoos. A few look a little different (kass already snagged a bag of those) so hopefully a little diversity will show up.
Come and get those orders.

Kiowa, I've had numerous grammas through the years (was in the Navy, so gave everything away just to start over many times), and they all did that.
However, this one today scared the hell out of me. Was no only laying on it's side, it didn't look like it was doing anything. I lost control and had to nudge it. Still didn't move! Since it has been awhile since I needed it, was starting to wonder if my drip bucket had been been used for something nasty without my knowledge and freaked even more.
Also, while I usually QT, everything is getting moved around again with the basement still in work, so had already decided to risk it this time. LOL, sooooo, with what looked like MAJOR stress even for a gramma, I took the risk and moved it to the tank much quicker than I think I have ever done an acclimation. (naughty, but thought for sure something was in that bucket and took the only way out I saw at the moment).
Well, the darn thing hid for a WHOLE 10 minutes, and has now been out looking for his own hole since. I didn't even bother turning the lights out. When I fed, he ate more than either of my angels :)
Looks like 1) He has a new home, and 2) I need my Qt tank set back up so I don't have to stress like this again!

When I got home the tang was laying on the bottom of the bag and didnt look good. If I moved the bag it would get up but then go on the bottom again.
Now I know tangs act funny also when stressed but same as scooter panicked and really thought it was dying. It was breathing heavy and just laying sideways.
I had started acclimating it to the 150 but kept looking at it so small and my other fish so big plus it looked half dead I did'nt know what to do.
I decided to put some water in the bag from my nano as it tests perfect. Then I started thinking. Should I put it in the 150 and take a chance of it getting beat up after its so stressed already?
Or should I put it in the nano where nothing can bother it and hopefully it will recoup.
Well I acclimated it for over an hour pacing the house trying to decide when my hubby finally said (who doesnt know alot about keeping fish lol) why put it in the 150 and risk it. Wouldnt you rather rip the nano apart to catch it later on and have it safe for now?
So I said ok the nano it is. My kid said "mom why would you listen to daddy" lol and I said I dont but just wanted someone to say it's ok.
Soooooo the tiny atlantic blue tang is in the nano (tang police are at my door).
My thinking is if I quarantined it that would be like the same thing or if it was at an LFS would prolly be in a small tank to. It's small (I didnt know they made em that small lol but it did say 2 1/2 inches and thats what it is) so the tank is big enough for now. Plus I figured theres a good chance of it dying anyway the way it looked.
I put it in and for over an hour it hung in the corner and did'nt move. I turned the lights to actinic only and it started to act more normal and swim around after awhile.
Now it has ich kinda bad which I did'nt notice before but it's a tang nuff said. I fed it some garlic soaked brine tonight as it was picking on stuff and it did eat it. I also put some sea lettuce on a clip for it.
I treated the tank with my sano herbal remedy (which I always do when adding a new fish) and we'll see what happens.
Although the sano stuff is for my big tanks at 1 drop per 50 gals so I added it to fresh water and a syringe so dunno if it will work.
The saddled blenny seemed fine all the while and a pretty cute fish.
It reminds me of a cross between a blenny and a hawkfish.
Yes it could get ich but Ive seen many times before where only 1 fish gets it. I havent lost a fish to ich in many yrs and hope my record keeps going but my luck hasnt been to good lately lol.
I like Ken and I'm the one who suggested him but think he coulda put more water in the bags with the fish. It's the first time I ordered fish from him.
My zoa's opened right up. I dont think theyre the same as mine last yr but under PC's this time instead of my T5's so may look different. I was hoping for the same ones I got last yr.
Oh and the sea lettuce I put in a hang on in tank fuge for right now. It has some creepy worms I need to get an ID on right away lol they look like a worm but have tentacles all around the mouth.
I am really sad about Jon and I's jawfish. I don't like killing things either. I hope Jasons make it ok.
I hope the tang makes it to. If it was'nt for the ich it seems to be doing good. If I see my cleaner shrimp in the 55 again lol I'm gonna try to catch it and put it in there to.
Ok sorry for the book here lol and yes thanks very much to Jon for doing this. I did'nt even get lost lol and would order from Ken again.
kass
Kass, you don't want more water in the bags in most cases. At ratio of 2/3 air to 1/3 water is ideal for most cases (especially overnight shipping). But I will agree the bag was likely a bit on the small side, even if it was a tiny tang. They stress easily during shipping. Air contains more, well, air than water does, and with too much water in a shipping bag, you run a good chance of suffocating the fish. Ideally he would use pure O2 in the bag, but I don't know how he ships his stuff. I usually use either breather bags for small fish that can handle it, or a good 6x12" bag that filled with about 2.5" of water and a good 6-8" of air in it.
I think you did alright putting it in your nano for the time being, hopefully it will pull through.
Jon, thanks for putting the order together!

08/30/2006, 01:39 PM
Yeah he does use oxygen.
The tang looks better today as it's acting normal but still has some white spots on it. I know they get so stressed when shipped. Hopefully it will get better.
Sounds like overall things went pretty well for everyone.
Jason those zoa's look great. I'd recommend everyone starting the zoa's on the bottom of the tank as he said they were deep water zoa's.
Oh and I'm glad the little crab found a home. My daughter kept begging for it lol but I had ordered a crab and did'nt really want another 1. I was afraid nobody might want it though.
