View Full Version : Center Brace Question
I have a 28 gallon bow front to use as my QT tank and at some point a nano.
Problem is I got this huge HOB filter (free :) ) and the center brace is in the way. The brace is very thin, like 1/8" thick and really shows no real support.
What is the pit falls of removing said brace?

I wouldn't recommend removing it on larger tanks. Plastic has a rather strong tensile strength and can be tugged at quite a bit.
But some tanks do just fine with it removed.

I read a post a while back. It was titled "dumbest things I did as a newbie," or something like that. There was a great story about a guy who removed the center brace because it was interfering with the lighting. You can guess where this is going. . .
I totally understand its purpose. I was just hoping it was overkill on a 28 gallon tank. It wont hold up the glass tops and bows real bad. But if its not meant to be, its not meant to be.
I really wanted that HOB too, its huge so it would have made an awesome HOB fuge with internal protein skimmer. The ultimate HOB for a nano.
