Ok so I'm about to purchase my t5 setup for my 105G tank (48x18x28)

at reefgeek.com that was reco by some members here on the forum:

http://www.reefgeek.com/products/categories/lighting/104069.html

but then I read some articles reberding VHO and how they are beter in some regards (coral growth for one)

for example:

http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=ES00908

is there a beter VHO setup u guys recomend?

if money didnt mater, which one would u pick and why?

which one would run cooler? 6 t5HO 55W lights or 4 110W VHO lights?

I saw a setup of VHO lights at a LPS and it looks great - however the t5 setup was just ehhh.. oh and MH are not an option as I can't run a chiller in my tank

thanks ahead of time!

Are you planning on keeping clams and/or SPS? If so T5HO IMO.

VHO is not all that efficient on PAR and gives off A LOT of heat. VHO bulbs also don't last as long as T5's

VHO only real benefit is it can be done very cheap.

so much light escapes on the typical vho setup, it will light up the whole room that its in. Lovely!! no really t5's should be the way to go. Check out what the setup is at the LFS. 6*54 t5 should be tons more light than 4*110 vho given that you are using single parabolic reflectors.

Get the T5s from reefgeek, thats what I have, they work great. You may even be able to fit 8 tubes over your tank if you're keeping SPS. Make sure you order a couple of extra aquablue tubes so you can play with the color mix.

I'm running 2x150w MH + 2x39w T5HO on my 30g SPS tank, but I find it gives out too much heat. Therefore, I'm planning to purhase a T5HO or VHO setup. I know that T5HO is more energy efficient than VHO, but I find VHO could bring out better color of the sps. Finally, I've decided to make a combo, 4X95w VHO + 2X39w T5HO.
