View Full Version : What would be a better CL pump: mag-dive 250 or iwaki 15RLT (255 gph)?

The Iwaki would put less heat in the into the water. Am I right? But would it last longer? And the iwaki is expensive!

wouldnt use a mag as they arent made for external use.
Plus they use more energy, make more heat and can be loud.

I use the Quiet One pumps, I love them.

I have both a Mag and an Iwaki. I use the Mag as a submerged return and the Iwaki 30rlt as my closed loop pump. The Mags CAN be run externally but it is frowned upon. Their housing is a little thin and prone to cracking acording to specs published on the web. I am sure lots of people do run them externally but I decided not to. I would go with a Japanese pump Iwaki. Believe it is the MD series of pumps. They will last almost forever. Cheers

are we really discussing a 250gph closed loop? Just run a maxijet 900 in there. Quieter than both, less energy, and less hastle.

Blown, quiet ones "arent made for external use" as much as mags arent, they are fundamentally the same design. As far as the link you posted, I"ve seen plenty of people destroy eveything from Sequence Darts to Dolphin Ampmasters, etc, beause they dont realize that MPT fittings are TAPERED. It should never be screwed in all the way like that. Thats user error, not a pump issue.

I have used a Mag ( externally for a year with no problems.
