what is hte maximum amount htat water temp can safly vary ofver hte course of a few hours..

my new chiller lets the water warm from 76 up to 78 befor it turns on and pulls it back down to 76

is this ok

also since this whole heat issue started ( tnak was at 87 +) my ca has been high ( 700 ppm) and alk low.

so for now im just dosing alk and it is instantly forming 'snow' ( CA falling out of solution im guessing) how long till the CA will be lowered and the alk raise again ( using 30 ml a day of b ionic in a 205 gallon system

you need to mix the alk with some water to dilute it, by forming "snow' you are basically wasting the bionic. its not making it any further into your tank because its instantly precipitating.

are you sure your ca is that high? what is your alk?

as to temp, i would say +- 2 degrees is borderline what i am comfortable with. how long did you take on the shift from 87 to 77? that is a 10 degree swing, imo you should have aimed at 82 for a while, then if you want to bring it down further...

well it was at 87 for only a day
then i used the house ac to lower it to 80 for 2 days then i go the chiller and got it back to "normal" 76-78

i really wisht he chiller didnt do the 1 degree bellow set leval turn off and 1 degree above set level turn on thing.. that is 2 degrees and im not comfortiable with that. but it is nice to know that you think it is " borderline what i am comfortable with"

about the b ionic i want it to precipitate. im using it to lower the CA till i get it back to 450 ppm then i can start dosing both again ( please note. that the b ionic is added at seperat times ( 6 hours apart 2 times a day) over the course of 45 seconds in to a very high flow area

bump

well now imthinging if i set it to swing from 79 to 77 then it would take longer to warm from 77 to 79 since it seems to warm slower after it hits 77

right now it is at 76.3 and 20 minutes ago it was at 76

I use Ranco controllers which have adjustable differentials. Check to make sure differential setting is not at 2 degrees. Ive worked with alot of controllers and never had one take temp beyond setpoint. Controller should shut off unit when temp reaches setpoint. If differential is programmed at 2 it will not kick back on until temp hits 2 over setpoint.

the controller is built in ( jbj artica chiller) and it does drop the temp 1 degree bellow befor shutting off

Don't worry about 2 to 3 degress of temp swing, even 4 is good IME.
