I have a new 105 gallon oceanic reef ready tank that Im in the process of seting up. I have never before had a tank with a sump filter however and am a little confused on selecting one. I am looking at the one here
(http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&item=290003529302&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1)
If I were to use one like this how would I select a return pump?
Is there maybe a better choice? Is this sump too big or too small for a 105 gallon???

when it comes to sump fuges there is no such thing as two big you want to go as big as room will allow. as for that setup it is a nice setup but i think you can diy one for that price and have better equipment as the skimmer isn't the greatest. it doesn't have a brand name return pump. and IMO it is kinda small

Well I have seen alot of DIY packs for refugiums on ebay as well. Were you just by a regular tank and then the kit provides the baffles and such.

sorry wasn't more clear, you can buy a tank like a 30 gal. or whatever will fit under your tank and go to a glass store and get pieces of glass cut to fit the tank to use for baffles and just silicone them in your self, much cheaper and works just as good as anything you can buy. if you need a pic of mine to show you what i am talking about let me know.

and how do I figure the type of return pump I need? I know its supposed to be something like turn over the volume of the tank water 4-5 times an hour right? So I need something like a 400-500 gph pump? What about head loss or what ever its called?

you want 3-5 times turnover rate through your sump fuge and the rest of your flow 15-20 times turnover through powerheads or a closed loop there is a head loss calulater on the home page to help figure out all the stuff you need. or just follow this link:p
