nitrite issues

iv been having some pretty bad nitrite issues and was told that it was the stock sponge filiter in my aquapod, most likely. so im planning to take that all out and make that extra compartment a refugium with some liverock and chaeto. will that solve the nitrite issues?

Nitrite? How high? I wouldn't generally even bother to measure nitrite in seawater. In seawater, it is not toxic, contrary to what many people that have freshwater experience think.

Sure you didn't mean nitrate?
