I am planning the canopy I’m building for my 210 gal tank. I will have 3 250W XM 10K MH, and I have a IceCap 660 that I will use to run 4 Actinic bulbs.

I just don’t know if I should go with the shorter 57” T5ho:
2 – ATI 80W 12000K Aquablue Special T5 HO Fluorescent
2 – ATI 80W Blue Plus T5 HO Fluorescent

Or go with full length 72” VHOs:
2 – Super Actinic R, 160W –URI
2 – 50/50 Actinic / White, 160W –URI

I don’t know if I go with the T5ho if I should stager the 4 bulbs to cover all 72” or line them all up and leave 8” of gap on each side?

I need some opinions here.

Thanks,

Craig

on the 660, I believe you can only run 3 80w t5ho.

2 more questions then:

1. Can I run 4 39W (36") bulbs end to end? So 2 rows of 2 bulbs?
2. Can the 660 run 4 160W VHOs?

Thanks again,

Craig

The ice cap 660 will run up to 16 feet of fluorescent bulb, with a max of 440w. So this mean if you want four bulbs you have to use the 110w's. I have the same 210 as you do and right now I am running 4 110, I have been thinking about switch it out to T5's thought, but sadly its just a hello light ballast and I have found anyone you has tried this.

So is what "FatCow" is saying incorrect? Can I run 4 80W T5ho?
Maybe I'll post a link in the IceCap forum area.

No, the 660 can only run 3x80W T5. It will run 4x110W VHO. Something about the T5 makes it run fewer (of course 4x80W T5 would also be ~20 feet of bulb...maybe that's the reason).

If you plan on using the fluroescent for anything other than just color balance, I'd go with T5. They have better water penetration and longer bulb life. The only real benefit of VHO over T5 is the UV Super Actinic bulb. I hear that the new T5 Super Actinic from UV is similar, but they only offer up to 54W at the moment.

My primary purpose would probably be color balance, or to add blue to the tank that has 3 250W XM 10K MH on it.

Also, as I said in my original post, the lights are for a 6' tank.

Thanks.

If you are going to go with T5HO,
you can run a total of 4 lamps of t5ho mixes (4ft,3ft,2ft) on the 660.
for examples, 4 x 4ft or 2x4ft plus 2x 2ft, or 4x3ft....
