I went and bought a pound of live cockles from the fish market and want to feed them to my puffer. I can feed him a couple today but what should I do with the rest? Can I put them in a 5 gallon container with some aquarium water and keep them alive until I feed them all (I would say a few weeks). Or should I freeze them? I think they are alive now though or will they just die if I put them in the water.

What is a better idea to buy small shelled foods in smaller quantities. They didn't let me buy the cockles less then 1 lb by the way.

IME, they don't last all that long--especially not a few weeks. More like days, if you are lucky.

so would you keep them in salt water or frozen in the freezer?

feeze'em then thaw when you need to feed? besides freezing them will kill anything unwanted anyways right?

I'd take them out of the water and freeze them. I buy live mussels for my angels, throw them in a ziploc freezer bag and just remove one to thaw once a week. They go just as crazy for a thawed one as they do for live.
