View Full Version : Major Snail Spawn Question

I am currently having a very large spawn event of my Turbo Snails, well it was just the turbos but they got every snail (margarita, astrea and black turbos...) spittin out their mojo. This normally would not bother me but there is about 30 snails gettin it on and my tank is MILKY white... My question is should I bust out a large water change before I go to bed? or will it be ok. I mean this is a lotta stuff in the water. I triggered this by accident when I put a SCWD on today and turned my return pump up higher which lowered the float valve and the kalk added made my ph swing from 8.1 to 8.49. At least that is what I think triggered it. The second my halides went off and only the actinics were on the snails went nuts.. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

sorry for my ignorance, but what is a SCWD?

Switching Current Water Diverter or something like that. It moves water between two outlets instead of one.

Nah, leave 'em be, at worst it's coral food. :D

So, I've been treating my tank, well, not so good as of late. I let it drop about 5gallons added the 5 gallons back, used some joes juice to kill some apstasia (turned off pumps) and tada... all the astrea's are standing up very high on their feet and spawning like mad. The fish are happy. Hope the corals get the same good feast.

I would do a very big water change - sometimes with a big swing in parameters things think they are going to die (maybe they are going to), so put all their energy into reproduction (spawning). This may be enough organics to crash your tank, so dilute it.

well... no water right now, so no water change, but this morning the tank is looking fine and I swear the fish are smiling.

Are you sure it's not just the snails that are smiling? And having a smoke? =D
