Still looking for some type of testing equipment for my tank that does not call for reading colors. I'm color blind and sometime the colors are hard to read. Looking for some type of Electonic device that does the reading for you. Has anyone heard of YSI Photometer 9000 or have used it?

I do not have experience with that unit but it sure seems pretty sweet!

I'm not color blind, but I do get frustrated by having to read different shades of blue to tell how much phosphate is in my tank, There has to be a better way to test water...
if not, maybe I should invent it :D

Why not give Randy a crack at this one in the Chemistry forum. He is a genious and if anyone would know he would.

Some tests you could do totally without color, such as the Salifert nitrate test (its really the opacity of the purple color that matters). I could see problems with the titration color change ones though (such as the Alk, Mg, or Ca tests). The pH is also problematic.
The obvious ones for pH and conductivity should be easy. I've heard bad things about calcium probes (reliability anyway).
Best of luck to you though!
