What is the best/most efficient refugium design? I'm getting ready to build a new acrylic aquarium with a 2' x 4' foot print. I want a Chaeto tumbler section and a large section for calerpa. My refugium always has junk floating on the surface. When are filter socks used?

I want to eliminate micro bubbles.

Eliminate any junk floating on top of the refugium water.

Any help would be appreciated.

Great work. I've also built one with ideas from that site. I'm happy with my design and construction. I"m looking for some ideas on how to keep my refugium surface clean. I always have scum floating on it.

Do you think it would a good idea to skim off the refugium surface and then pump it back up into the dispaly tank and eventually it will go into the skimmer from the display tank overflow?

Skimmer is feed from a stream from the overflow box.

if you have good surface agitation the scum issue should not be to bad. Stagnant water allows for the biuld up of stuff like that. Keep the water moving.
