Hi, what is this type of algea? it seems to grow in shadow areas of the tank, very anoying, kind of redish and hairy. Thanks

I believe its cyano.

it kind of looks like, but there is plenty of flow around there and the hairy texture it's what makes me think it's something else.

That's more or less classic growth for cyano. Hairyier looking in some cases when its actively growing in filaments.

The green is very nice though, Neomeris, or caterpillar algae. :)

Yeah, I let my tank go in one of my cyano experiments and it got like that too.

undoubtedly Cyano...looks like you may have some dinoflagellates coming around too...but that red mat is definitely cyano

there is plenty of flow around there

Then something else is fueling it; high nitrates, phosphates & nutrients etc. can all cause an outbreak. Have you had a chance to test some of these since the cyano showed up?

I have a phosphates test I'll post results later. Thanks

phosphates it's at 0, but that doesn't mean anything. I'm getting close to do a 20G water change. I'll see what happens then.

The worm looking plant is "pipe cleaner' algea. It is worse than Kudzu. i have broken down, cleaned, blow torched my rock and finally had to toss all my rock out.

Get rid of it while you can

Mine seems to go in different seasons. This is the second time I've seen them. Last year they came out and just went away on it's own. I'll keep an eye on them.

I'm still trying to figure it out, I did a 20G water change and still coming back on the same spot I even vacummed that area, my sailfin tang is eating it? what do you guys think? nitrates 0. I do feed daily frozen food, 2 cubes for my cowfish and everyone else. formula one, two, mysis, brine. some times flakes but not often. My cowfish won't eat anything but frozen food.
