how likely are these things to overflow and flood the wifes wood floor?

Your tank should be setup in such a way that if the overflow becomes clogged (assuming the drain is clogged, not the teeth) then the water being pumped up from your area where the return pump is located will not be enough to overflow the volume of the overflow + the rest of the tank volume that is left over. If however your pump is in your sump with no divisions and the overflow becomes clogged then you will have a problem as all of your sump water will be pumped up, or until the pump runs dry and burns up.

You could always design the tank to have 2 outflows, incase one gets clogged. 2 outlets becoming clogged at the same time is almost unheard of.
