I usually glue my corals with super glue gel. But lately my frags are turning into mini colonies and are getting to heavy for the S.G. Is there any other alternative? I tried reef type putty but its hard to get it to stick and hold?

Are there other alternatives to adhearing small colonies to LR? Can anyone suggest or inform me on what they use? Posibly post links without breaking any RC rules to sites that sell what you suggest or use?

I really aprecaite your time and info!

Thank you!
Spankey:)

Aquamend is the same as the putty you get at the LFS. Try using more SG gel. SOmetimes I use close to half a tube. Once the coral encrusts over it should have no proplems.

I read on here awhile back of a very nice way of increasing the sticking ability of the epoxy putty. I was having problems too.

Mix up the putty and wait about a minute.
Apply a drop of super glue gel to the end of the frag and attach the glued end to the putty.
Apply a drop of super glue gel to the rock and attach the rock to the putty.

I think the super glue helps the putty stick until it has enough time to harden and form its own bond. So far has worked very well for me.

get large tubes of superglue gel from icgel if you're planning on gluing larger stuff, a 20g tube goes a long way!

is Aquamend safe for the reef? It must be if people use it?

How about the super glue? Does it need to be a specific one?

RobinsonFam1 are you talking about the Bob Smith InstaCure gels. If so where are you getting the larger bottles, I have been looking for that stuff for a while. The hobby shop by my house used to carry it but has gone out of business and noone else knows what I am talking about.

The stuff I am talking about is here (http://www.bsiadhesives.com/Pages/hobby/ca.html) and they have a product called IC-Gel

My only real question about this Ic-Gel is how does it act when in the water? I mean do you have to hold the coral or rock in place for minutes? Or is it active imediatly like super glue???Gel that is...

Thanks
Spank.

Spankey,

Are you talking about using it in the water. This does not work so well. All CA glues will develop a skin when they contact water ICGel is no different. It is still usable if you put a glob on and mush it around intil it sticks.

As far as dry setting times mine have been about 15-30 seconds depending on how much you are using and what the surface is like. I will say that it does not like slimy surfaces, but it does like getting into pores and cracks.

I used Gorilla glue for making baffles in my sump/fuge and it worked great. The only problem is it takes about 2 days to cure and you can't get it wet, and you have to keep contact and pressure during that time. Also it put out some pretty noxious fumes during curing.

If superglue does not work for you there are also a bunch of different putties that people have used with good success. They also take time to cure but can get wet and provide some hold during curing. I have not tried them as I have had good success with IC-gel (while I could find it)
