i am using a plenum with 1 inch sand bed. are plenums bad these days? my paramters are all 0, but i do a lot of water changes. however, i have hair algae. (if only my grass grew this well). i have done the 5000 things people have suggested here in the forums to get rid of it, but i cant stop it. could it be the plenum?

Don't know. But I'd remove it and see how things turn out.

1" sand over the plenum aint gonna work for U . U need at least 4" bed for the plenum to work.
This is how this folks screwed up the first time. If set up right the first time, plenum is indestructible.

Your plenum would need more substrate I agree with menard.
I prefer the plenum system i've run 2 tanks on the system over the years and it do work.My first plenum ran for 7 years.
If you want to continue with a plenum system you have to start by adding more substrate, lots of water movement, skimmer.

im still not a fan of plenums :)

and i still dont hear anyone saying i gotta have a plenum :)

if it works for you thats great, very few can make it work. Most cannot without a higher skill level.

Lol ! yes few people make it work. For 10 yrs I been doing this method, now its like taking care of fresh water is that easy.

Every method works, just choose what suits U.:)
