Now, I have all the necessary equipments that would keep the corals alive and healthy...however I do not have a refigium, do I need one before I buy a first coral ?
If not then can you tell me which coral that is suitable for the beginner yet is appealing ?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

What kind of equipment do you have?
Tank
Lighting
Filtration
Substrate
Live Rock
Ect.
Then maybe we can help you more,
Most likely a hardy xenia or something....
Let us know what your system specs are....
Ryan
PS no it is not absolutly nessisary for you to have a refugium, but it never hurts to have one.

I have a fish only and keep - mushrooms, ricordia, zoas , and green star polyps for color ...and photosynthetic gorgonian---nothing that requires care or feeding
no problems ever

I suggest Green Star Polyp or Xenia. These two were my first corals. Did great!!

2nd vote for xenia. they grow like weeds and you'll learn the fragging part of the hobby too. i traded in 10 xenia frags yesterday and got a nice hammer coral...gotta luv it!

I have a 30 gal tank
The lighting are two 36" 30 watts natural daylight and 30 watts actinic blue spectrum.
I have an Millennium 3000 Mechnical Filter and Seaclone Protien Skimmer 100.
I also have the AquaClear 30 powerhead for the increased water circulation and aeration.
I have approximately 40 lbs of Live sand and approximately 30 pounds of live rocks.
The livestocks I have so far are:
1 Tomato clownfish
2 PJ Cardinal Fish
3 Green Chormis
1 Scooter Blenny
1 Cleaner Shrimp
1 Peppermint Shrimp
8 Hermit Crabs
I am planning to purchase an anemone somewhere in this road along with the coral purchases.
So far I am considering about the mushrooms, zoas, acropora, brain and candy cane. I don't think I can have them all at once in my 30 gal so its just a list that I am interested in.
Thanks for the suggestions and help
Mike

your lighting won't work for an anemone, so stay away, they are for advanced hobbyists IMO, the mushrooms, zoas and xenia are all good starters.

So I need a stronger lighting later in the road when I am ready to purchase an anemone ?

Anemones, most Acropora, and Clams all require more light than you have. At some point you will probably also want to upgrade your skimmer to a more efficient model (the Seaclones are not strong skimmers).
Right now you should probably stick to soft corals (such as the two mentioned above) until you become really good at handling your water parameters.

yep, I get $8/stalk at any of my 3 LFS's. They don't ship well and they are always in demand. My LFS yesterday asked me how soon I can grow another 10.

i wouldnt try the clams acroporas or anemones...steer clear of that mess, trust me! you dont have the proper set up for all that. go for the mushrooms, zoanthids, or xenias! good begginer corals with large coloer varieties!
