Are mandarins known to eat bristleworms.
I looked in the tank today and noticed the mandarin pull one out of a piece of live rock and then take it away behind the rocks out of view.
The bristlworm wasnt that big ( around two inches long) but I would have thought it was too big for a mandarin but I know what I saw.

I see from your post that the comment was a bit tongue in cheek but he is on the slim side although there are pods of differing nature in the tank and sump I do feel there isnt enough in there for him.
But I do believe that hunger doesnt make a fish eat anything otherwise he would surely just eat the brine and mysis shrimp (frozen) I put in on a regular basis.
Is there anybody who has heard of this behaviour from a mandarin.

Mandarins are fussy and difficult to keep.
I think it eating ANYTHING has to be a possitive thing.

If you are refering to a green or spotted mandarin, then I would have to say yes. ( I have atleast heard of this before)
