Ok, folks...I have my 100 gallon tank getting drilled, and I bought a sump from the local guy who did a really good job in it's design. My question is related to an auto top-off system.

There is a hole drilled in the sump, and he gave me a float valve to put in the sump, and a fitting to put in a top off container to run 1/4" tubbing between.

My question is what size container should I use, as well as what kind of container to use. I know that if it's a plastic "tub" then it needs to be food grade plastic. Give me some ideas of what I can use.

Thanks

Most rubbermaid stuff is perfectly safe to keep water in. I personally use a big 55 gallon drum with a bulkhead in the bottom for my top off to my float valve (its in the laundry room on the otherside of the wall, and has an RO/DI unit hooked to it). Another good idea is a 5 gallon jug with a bulkhead in the bottom of it. We drink water from it, so its perfectly safe!

I used a 5 1/2 gallon glass aquarium on my 90g. I have a Rio 1700 in the top off tank. It is controlled by a Tsunami auto top off switch. The Tsunami is controlled by vacuum and is not mechanical. It is supposed to be much more reliable and safe. Time will tell. It has worked well so far.
