He is a beauty though. He was in a trigger tank in the store so I am leaning towardsd a Humu Humu or a Blue Throat and then perhaps a YSM CLownfish (Tank Bred w/ no anenome....

Sounds like you will be feeding some expensive dinners for your new friend. A really cool looking eel IMO.

He just had his first meal, about 2 defrosted Calamari Cubes.

Question: Does anyone know if introducing Ghost Shrimp will deter him from eating frozen prepared foods in the future?

Pleco420 did you find that eel online or at a lfs? Im Not shure if feeding live will deture it from eating frozen in the future of not.

LFS, they were feeding frozen prawn......

They told me he will eat just about anything.

Thanks for looking out!

Out of curiosity if he is eating frozen why try live? Also do you have any more pics of the eel to share?

I thought putting some ghost shrimp in there would be fun for him to hunt.......

He is still very shy right now and it is difficult to photo him. I will post some tonight if I can entice him out with a few ghost shrimp running around the tank bottom

Better Pic!!! His body turns into a golden yellow with dark spots, that pic might take a while until he is totally comfortable with me and his surroundings.

He is about 12" and he is in a 60 gallon with 75 lbs of rock

Is the tank big enough in your opinion???

I think that eel will get about 36" what are your tank dimensions?
Also i dont know how active that type of eel is. the eel should be fine in the tank you have him in now for at least for a couple of years. IMO. I have had my zebra for about a year now and keep him well feed and havent noticed any drastic size growth to him.

He likes to hang out in the Live Rock, I am sure as he gets more accustomed to his surroundings he will poke his head out more, but I never to expect to see him doing any free swimming.

Thanks for your opinion...

Great Looking Eel. I have a 4' foot undulated Moray Eel. that was Gonna go into a 55g, but I would of had to upgrade the tank size in time. My buddie that moved gave me a 125g tank that He/She the Eel is going in now. From what I've been reading on forums and from what I've asked. You should more then likey Be fine in that size tank for the life of the EEl. IMO.

Have fun with your friend.

As long as I have a few years until I need to upgrade that will work then the 58 will be a reef tank again!!!

That's the plan anyway

that is a gymnothorax fimbriatus... it is a really cool eel with some sharp teeth! its cool.... they get about 4' long i have been told. they need bigger than a tank you have now though... they will probably need at least 120+ gallons full grown. they eat a lot and create a lot of waste. i hope you have a good skimmer.

i have mine with a humu trigger, niger trigger, snowflake eel, mappa puffer, and some damsels. mine has eaten probably 5 damsels so far.

as far as tank mates dont put it with anything it can eat because it probably will take them out. but i love mine. i am debating on keeping it or not when i switch my fish to my new tank... a 225. i just like damsels a lot.

My skimmer is rated for 125 gallons so it should keep up fine.

There will be a Humu Humu & Harlequin Tusk Wrasse (Hawaii) to keep him company after I can sell off the rest of my coral.

He is become a lot more friendly while feeding. He does not eat the frozen krill though. Huge fan of Mussels and Calamari so far...

Any feeding hints from your experience??? Especially frequency. I have been giving him 2 cubes of something every other day so far as I have had him for a week now.
