looking forward to the nano streams, but in the mean time wondered what it would be like to use a single 6000.

what size tank? and what are you trying to keep?

I have one on a 55g. It moves a TON of water. It is a great powerhead, although it does not put flow through-out the entire tank. There are still a few dead spots, which is to be expected with only one PH in a tank.

I run one on a 90G and it gets flow all the way to the other end. It should work nicely on a 65G.

I have a 6100 and a 6060 in my 65 tall. It may seem like a lot, but go for a swim on a reef.

to be more specific, its likes wrotts tank, 36x18x24 tall.

wrott, how do the lps handle the flow? how do you have them situated?

pics?

I've got them on each side pane in the middle/top pointing toward the front glass as far as ppossible--so that the 2 currents are hitting each other and deflecting off front pane.
I have a large frogspawn and a plate along w/ zoos and a leather that do not react negatively. There is not a direct flow toward anything. The flow is pointed 45 degrees toward front and deflected.
No doubt, there is alot of movement, but not enough to irritate softer corals.
Camera is w/ a friend and old photos are on old/crashed computer, but I will try to get a photo in a few days.

6100 in a 58... stream is in a Deco-rock blasting right at the "Megaflow"-style overflow... no LPS but I wouldn't hesitate to put any in... the flow is broken up enough not to shear them off the skeleton...

hey jonT,

6100, wowsa, thats a lotta flow. even 50cent would be jealous.

do you have that turned down or on a controller pulsing?

on a single controller pulsing....~30%-100%...short cycle. Also running about 500 gph out of a 3/4" SS and a MJ1200 maxi-stream pointed into the bottom glass. I'm considering adding another modded maxi-jet :D

how does the dispersion diameter of the tunze and maxis compare?

although not sure, the tunze forum guy said the nano streams should be about 18", but wont hold for more than a foor or two.

The tunze seems to be wider and less force than the Maxi. The Vortech is even wider than the Tunze but I haven't had the chance to play with one of those long term. The Maxi's work well for me pointed down in that I can easily sneak them along the back wall behind the rockwork and not have to look at an unsightly powerhead. Now if they made a nano-decorock that would be pimp!

We talking maxijets, or maxistreams?

I've got a 6060 in my 58, and the tunze has less flow, in a much more concentrated jet than the maxistream.

Nemo, the 6000 is nice, but I honestly dont think its enough by itself for SPS.

rich, i dont plan on an sps only tank.

im just working out all my options. i will hopefully have a few maxi"streams" within the week, and then ill go from there.

depending how easy or difficult they are positioning where i want them, i would then consider the nano streams. then figured the 6000 on a controller could be a stop gap till they are released.

FWIW, I have 2x6000 running full blast in my 56G (30x18x24). I have SPS and LPS such as acan, blasto, dendro, enchinophyllia,...
