I am getting ready to purchase a 65 gallon reef ready tank and finding that my pennies aren't stretching as far as I would like them to. One consideration I am thinking about to help save on the cost is getting a cheaper Tidepool instead of a Berlin Sump. Does anyone have any advice for or against either of these filters. Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks

I've got a tide-pool converted to sump.....

no bio-wheel and the trays hold a # of things... filter pads,carbon... the bottom of that can be sand with some rock etc.. and of course algae !!

I will say hi to you as you say bye to your money!

Sumps are really the way to go IMO.

DIY sump! Go into the DIY section, tons of great info. Don't be afride, ask for help, etc.

IMO your paying too much for something that can be made, with that money u can spend it on something else u like. It might come out looking ugly, but if it under ur tank then no need to worry.

I made my own sump out of a 20 gallon glass tank and some acrylite baffles. It is working really good for me so far. My only addition is going to be a closed loop as I would like to have some random flow and closer to 20 changes outs an hour.

PS silicone does not bond with Acrylite so you have put a seal on both sides so it will not move.
