My Christmas Wrasse hid for a week before he reappeared. Give it some time.

I also had a xmas wrasse that hid for at least 5 days when I first got him. We went crazy looking for his secret hiding place and I had him for 3 years and still never figured out where he went at night. After he acclimated, he was always out during the day. I was sure he was dead at first. He used to leap out of the tank and I think he managed to hit his head once. He was never the same. For many months he swam upside down like a dying fish. It was really hard to watch! When I upgraded my tank and was able to catch him, I euthenized him. I really liked that fish. :(

ditto to what the others said, also something that has happened at our lfs is that the fish jumped down the back of the tank and landed into the sump.

Give him some time as the others had said. I have a H. Biocellotus (sp?) - looks like a purple x-mas wrasse - that we started calling "daylight savings" because we didn't see him during the day for the first 3 weeks he was in the tank. After the first week he would come out from his hiding place for only a few hours really early in the morning and went back when the sun came up.
He swims around like he owns the place now.
Make sure to cover your tank - mine jumped once through a 2 inch gap in a tank cover I left ajar for 15 minutes and I have heard him bounce off the acrylic covers on my tank more than once since then.

i had a cori wrasse i was sure was dead, two weeks later i looked on the outside of my prefilter box and he was swimming in there happy as a pig in mud. eating an accumulation of pods. unfortunately it was small but i was so happy to find him and put him in his rightful place. but back to the topic, he and his partner hid for a week coming out very infrequently for the first couple weeks.
