my tank is FULL of microbubbles constantly from my skimmer. i decided i want to make my spare 10 gallon aquarium into a sump that way i could put my heater, skimmer, and HOB refugium in it. my questionis that since i don't have a drilled tank, would this work? if so, i know nothing about plumbing or what i would need to make this work. here is the overflow. i am sure it's not the best, but it's what i can afford right now.

Yea, that will work fine.

ok, on that note: does the sump need to be below the tank, or can it be beside it? i am guessing below?

It should be lower than the overflow. I would put it on the ground beside or under the tank.

Here's some pictures of how mine's set up. Pretty simple now but once I get my 100 gallon sump in, It's going to sit beside the tank.

That's good info you've gotten, but I'd be cautious about using a hang-on overflow that doesn't use a U-tube. You may be taking a gamble with flooding if you don't use a small airpump with it to prevent malfunctioning. They look like this:

I agree with the above. Dont get that type of overflow. They are not reliable. You want a U Tube overflow
