I was at the LFS today looking for chemipure and they dont sell it there, but they told me that it was just carbon. I was wondering if this was true and if not, what is it?

Thanks,

Stew

Why do you want to buy something if you don't know what it is? Did someone tell you this would help fix something?

Here is a link to the stuff: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=BE1113

It is definately not just carbon...

Chemipure is an ion-exchange resin, or in other words its 100 times better than crappy carbon and lasts about 2-4 months

That is highly debatable. I'm not sure that there is any proof of chemi-pure being better than GAC at all, let alone 100 times better. I'm not saying it's a bad product. I used it for years. I can say however that I didn't notice a change when I switched from chemi-pure to gac.

It does have resins mixed in, however you need 1 bag per 25 gallons I believ so for me cost is the issue and I dont knw where I'd put 25 bags of chemi pure! and at $4+ a bag thats $100 and really I think changing monthly would be about right. Actually now that I think of it $100 is'nt too bad, the Rowas phos I'm using is $$50 per month but I dont know which one works better? I know they do different things, but is Chemi pure really better than GAC? I dont really know, wish an expert would chime in here.

It did not make any differance when I tried it either.

I've used Chemipure off and on for years. It's a mix of carbon and synthetic resin. Most of the time I run straight carbon, but a few times a year I drop a bag of chemipure in and things perk up a bit.
