Garden Hose For Water Changes ??

My water container is located about 30 feet from my display tank. I change 25 gallons every week and have been using buckets to move the water to the display.

I would like to be able to eliminate the buckets and pump the water from the storage container to my sump.

Can I use a vinyl garden hose with the metal connections removed to pump the water to the sump ?

IMO...That's a pretty big water change for a weekly schedule - I change 10gls. a week in my 75

What does everybody use to take the water out of your sumps? Not talking about evaporation but actual water changes. I plan on having a gravity fed pipe go thru the wall from the garage to the sump. I can not figure a good way to get the water out of the sump? Just wondering what everybody else uses?

i've heard that hoses sometimes have chemicals in them for something, but i still use one all the time... no ill affects

Alot of hoses have mold and mildew inhibitors, I would also be a little worried if they had brass fittings on them. Brass=Copper

use a ball valve connected to your out pipe.....if its gravity fed............

Re: 25 gallon water changes--I've been having nitrate problems and I've tried many different things to keep them down based on what I've read on RC. I've tried feeding less, coil denitrator, refugium with chaeto, and more live rock (93 lbs total). The only thing that I've been successful with is water changes of 25 gallons every 1 to 2 weeks.

Seriously, I bought a sump pump at Home Depot. You hook a hose to it. It has a million and one uses. Taking water out of a sump, transfering from garbage cans, taking water out of tanks. Ya gotta have one.

I use the TetraTest Laborette test. If I keep up with the water changes I'm in the "12.5 to 25" range pretty consistently. If I go three weeks or more between water changes I'm in the "25 to 50" category.

you have 4 fish (and small-ish ones at that ) in a tank that has a volume of 90 g....and you goto 25~50 in three weeks....?

The nitrate readings don't sound right to me either. Have a couple of samples checked at the LFS. While you're at it have your new saltwater checked too.

So is it ok to use the python with the hose? It has a brass fitting at the sink as a connector.
