My leather coral has a 1/4 inch hole through it

It didnt have it last night at 11 pm and this morning at 8 am it had a hole. Looks like something ate through it

it could be one of those goofy looking stars. i have a 1 in my sump and i'm sure i have some in my display.

Bristle worms are not really a pest they tend to be harmless detrirtus eaters. They just look scary. Do you have any fish that might eat soft corals. If you aren't sure you can always do a little night tank gazing always an elightening experience 1 year into my new tank and I'm still finding things that I've never seen before.

I'm not sure whats signs you may see if you had them. They are small and fast. I saw one last week, walked away to get my tongs to grab him and he was gone by the time I got back! Anthony Calvo has a passage in his book about one of them feasting on one of his corals.
I'm not saying that this guy if your culprit but don't be shocked if you have a few of these sob's in your tank.
