Hey everybody,
I am here for some opinions on which filter and which skimmer is good. Right now I have the emperor 400 filter which my LFS sold me when I set my 55 g fishtank (reef and fish) up. I also have the Remora skimmer. I dont like neither my filter (I dont think it does a good job) nor my skimmer (it releases way to many micro bubbles).
I would really like to get some good equipment. However, it should also be affordable ;)
Thanks for your opinions!!!

I would use LR 1+lb /gallon A Good skimmer regular water changes and employ a refugium. use the Emperor to run AC.

Well in my 55 gallon, I Have 2 Peguin Bio-wheels 350, runing with (2) Nitrate packs, (2) phoszorb packs, (4) Activated Carbon packs.
The combo is great if you dont have a Fuge and/or much live rock (roughly 30lbs). and as for a Skimmer go with a Prizm Skimmer Delux does a really great job, but i think it may be a little to watery. Sorry but what do you guys think about the Super Skimmer Needle wheel by coralife as an upgrade?

I bought a 24" HOB refugium on ebay for $39. I got it from the site below:

This guy is located in california around the bay area. He also sells skimmers for a decent price. Check it out.

If you have enough live rock you don't need anykind of filter.Thats what the live rock is for.If you have been running the tank for at least 6 to 8 months it should be well seeded.Filter sponges are nitrate traps.I would suggest you don't use a filter at all.If you do you should only use if for carbon and you can place cheap filter floss in it but I would change it every week as it will be dirty and they are nitrate traps.Changing it once a week will keep your tank clean.I use it in my sump return and you would be surprised as to how dirty it becomes in a week.I had a remora pro its sitting in my garage collecting dust it sucks. If you are on a budget and want a good skimmer The super skimmer performs well for the money.I would tell you to get the tunze but you would have to place it in your tank so it may be an eye sore to you but its very quiet and it pulls 650 lph so its a good skimmer plus its not very big for what it can do.I had the deltec mce 600 its a good skimmer but pricy it pulls 300 lph and its a bit noisy. Not as loud as that dam remora
