I just purchased 3 green chromis from lfs they said not to let their water in my tank because it's medicated. Is this a red flag or is it normal for lfs to medicate their tanks? Also they said brown algae from cycling period needs to get sucked out with vac, if this is the case than why is everone telling me to put cleaning crew in when I mention this. You know if I'd of know this I would have vacd. before purchasing my medicated fish!! Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated, as these fish are adjusting to water temp as I write!! Thanks, Matt

It's fine. LFS's often medicate as a precaution. Even if they didn't I would never put anyones water in your tank.

We medicate ours lightly as a precaution.

He's right. A lot of lfs use copper in the fish displays as a precaution. They don't have the time like we all to to pamper them so they do the next best thing.

As far as the diatoms go, you don't even need to vac them out. Just let them go away on their own. A small cleanup crew will most certainly be useful too ;)
