why use one? Only reason I ask is ive just bought one to use with rowaphos,Bargain phos reactor!!
Wasnt till I got it home I reaslised its meant for sand really.

They are used for the biological system. If you had a tank without live rock the fluidized bed would act the same way bio balls would. Your nitrfying bacteria would grow on the sand surfaces. I'm not sure if sand is used. I think it typically is some other substance.
