Help with Ocean Runner 3500 pump... fittings weak?

I have this pump and I would like to get my tank running, but I went to hook it up and all that stands between a flood and happiness seems to be 1/10 of a counterclockwise turn! I am scared to set this up, what if it slips while on. It isn't very tight. . .

my via aqua was just like that and what sucked was that it came loose on me!!! a little flood but nothing too crazy. PVC cement should hold it ;)

If it will be submerged dont worry.

It will not be sumberged. I need specifics on what to put this together with. Should I use silicon? I need to be able to get it apart to (eventually) clean the pump.
