Which eheim pump should i use as a return for my 80 gallon tank?. Should i go with the 1250 or the 1260. The price jump and puwer consumption jump is very big between these two. The 1250 only gives about 300gph though and the 1260 gives about 630gph based on marine depots site.

which one would be enough?

Drilled or Overflow?

I never thought to use a 1250 for a return... I dont think it would cut it. The 1260 on the other hand could probably do the job okay... Remember you lose a lot of GPH just in the plumbing.

its a built in overflow. Right now i have two iwakis totalling in 2400gph as a return which is waaaay too much. I bought the setup from the previous owner and he didn't know what he was doing i guess.

btw, im also going to be using a sequence dart as a closed loop so flow in the tank is not my concern. I'm just worried about the flow through the sump right now.

I would personally go with the 1250 depending on how the system is plumbed. I like having a slow flow through my sump for better contact time on my skimmer. You can also use the 1260 and put a valve on it if you think it would be too much.

Either would work. if you have a small sump, ~20g, I'd go for the 1250. A bigger sump, like 30G+ the 1260.

1250 will be enough. I almost went w/ 1250 for my 180.

should i run the return through the chiller or the closed loop through the chiller?
